The Statue of Liberty

    The Statue of Liberty is located in New York. It is the Statue of a woman holding a tablet in her left hand and torch in her right hand. The woman is wearing a crown. Seven points of the crown represent the seven oceans and continents of the world.
    The Statue of Liberty was designed by Frederic Auguste Bartholdi. It was started in 1876 and it was finished in 1884. The Statue was made of copper with steel supports. It was a gift to Americans from the French to celebrate the 100th anniversary of American Declaration of Indepedence. The Statue was made in sections. In 1885 it was put in 214 boxes and shipped to New Yourk, where it was reassembled in four months. The Statue of Liberty was declared a national monument in 1914.
    Visitors can climb 354 steps to reach the crown and admire the beatiful view from 25 windows. You can also visit the Statue of Liberty exhibit, where you can see museum object, photograps, prints and video.
